TTNC joins ITSPA (the Internet Telephony Service Providers’ Association)

TTNC is pleased to announce its membership to ITSPA, a trade association for Voice over IP (VoIP) network and service providers. ITSPA is the representative voice of the VoIP industry to UK Government bodies such as Ofcom, the Department for Business Innovation and Skills and the Home Office, as well as to the European Commission and other European institutions.

All ITSPA members have been assessed and approved for membership by the ITSPA Council and must follow the ITSPA Code of Practice. Mark Burcher, TTNC's Managing Director commented: "I'm really pleased that we joined the ITSPA and I have to say it's long overdue as we've been providing VoIP services in various forms for more than 8 years!

We've never thought of ourselves as a 'VoIP' provider even though we've been involved with the industry and offering VoIP services since we started out. The technology was in its infancy then and a lot of businesses would not consider using VoIP mainly due to quality issues, either with the broadband connectivity or voice quality. It was almost a bad thing to say you did anything with VoIP. Some customers used to ask us if we were a 'VoIP only provider' (which we are not) as they did not want their calls to go over IP.

Those days have well and truly gone. Over the past 2 to 3 years we have seen an increasing amount of businesses who want to adopt VoIP in some shape or form. People are feeling more confident with the technology and its capabilities and they want to experience the benefits that VoIP can provide, like the costs savings and the flexibility. Who can blame them, it's a sensible business decision.

We now have tens of thousands of our phone numbers terminating to VoIP services, being used by thousands of businesses of all sizes. Our VoIP network handles hundreds of thousands of calls per week and carries several million minutes of voice traffic each month, so we can see that businesses now accept VoIP. In fact I would say most businesses embrace VoIP and that its usage and adoption will grow at an even faster rate."

The ITSPA also provides members with access to anti fraud tools, IP peering with other members, VoIP number porting tools and recommendations for using best practice methods in the work place.

Mark continued: "Joining the ITSPA is a milestone for us for many reasons:

  • We are showing that we are a reliable and trusted provider of VoIP services
  • We commit to follow a Code of Practice
  • We are showing our customers and prospective customers that we are committed to VoIP as a technology and will continue to develop and expand our VoIP services

Another very important reason for us to join the ITSPA was so that we can take an active part in discussions and consultations regarding the VoIP industry with governments and regulators in the UK and the rest of the EU. We will be at the forefront of the industry, influencing processes which will shape the future of the VoIP industry. It's not every day a business gets to do that sort of thing; I'm really looking forward to it."
