To be clear - 070 numbers are not mobile numbers

Telecoms /

You may not know this, but 070 numbers were actually introduced in the mid-nineties. But despite being around for nearly 20 years, there’s a lot of confusion regarding this number range.

Why? Because they’re so similar looking to mobile numbers. However, they work very differently.

What are 070 numbers for?

070 numbers are also known as 'Personal' or 'Follow Me' numbers and are great if you're the kind of person who's always on the move. They're excellent if you want to give out a contact number to someone, but keep your personal number private.

Plus you don't have to pay any call forwarding charges when forwarding to a UK Landline or UK mobile.

Woah there tiger, not so fast! There is a very good reason why you don't have to pay for call forwarding - it costs 50p per minute to call an 070 number. And that's from a BT landline, with mobile networks costing even more.

Unfortunately, because 070 numbers look so similar to mobile numbers, people often call them up expecting to simply use their inclusive minutes or just pay the standard mobile rate. Until they receive their phone bill...
